Success Stories: Lucky
Lucky's Race Against Cancer
Lucky is one of the top agility Shelties in America - not to mention one fortunate dog. The six-year-old - an AKC and USDAA competitor is a weave pole phenom - has been competing since age three. Even when she was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma two years ago and underwent 36 weeks of chemotherapy, Lucky kept competing and turning in world-team times. Lucky was cancer-free for nearly eight months, then had a recurrence in July 2005. Thanks to the combined efforts of her dedicated owner and an entire team of ACVIM oncology diplomates, veterinarians, and other cancer experts, Lucky is on the mend again.
Lucky was born to run - and her owner, Martine Britell of Middleburg, Virginia, is giving her every chance to be top dog not only in agility competitions but in a race against canine lymphosarcoma: "What's most important is to give Lucky the best quality of life possible - to let her run like the wind, compete, and be happy. Her success is the result of many people working together on her behalf."
