To our sweet baby Miles T. Cat: May 2001 – May 2010

The house is so quiet and empty without you around. We never imagined a day would come when we would say, “This house is too quiet” or when everything on top of the coffee table would stay that way all day long. You filled our home and our hearts with so much love. There is nothing we would not give to have you back in our arms this very moment. I wish we could have done more for you and I hope you know we did everything we could to give you the life you deserved. You deserve more than the world can give and the only comfort I have is knowing you are finally in a home where you can nap, and play, and run, and stuff your little face with all the kibble God can pour out. You will always been my sweet boy. Thank you for teaching us how to love without fear, without regret, and without end.
I cannot wait until the day I get to hold you and see you again.

If I Should Grow Frail

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain does keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done
For this – the last battle – cannot be won.
You will be sad, I understand,
But don’t let grief then stay your hand.
For on this day, more than the rest
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn’t want me to suffer, so
When the time comes, please let me go.
Take me to where my needs they’ll tend,
Only, stay with me til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me.
Until my eyes no longer see’
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don’t grieve that it must now be you
Who has to decide this thing to do
We’ve been so close – we two – these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.
