I Miss Him...
I have precious memories of Kahoma. I literally worshipped him--that's how special he was in my life. He was a good, kind and gentle dog. He had two passions; he absolutely loved everybody and loved to walk. He walked Howie and me over 5,000 miles in three years--in all kinds of weather. We got caught in downpours several times. We walked in 20 degree cold, the north wind blowing hard. We walked at 6:30 in the morning and at one time, til 11:30 at night. We walked several times a day. His favorite route was about 3 1/2 miles.
I was absolutely heartbroken when he became too ill to do what he really enjoyed. He walked long distances, even with all his diseases, which included a heart disease, a liver disease, uncontrolled diabetes, paG?ancreatitis and sceptecemia. His heart was as big as Texas!
I am very grateful to his primary veterinarian, Dr Connie Guerra and her staff of veterinarins and technicians, for what they tried to do for him. I am grateful to the veterinarians at the South Texas Veterinarian Specialists, all Diplomates, who treated him. Dr Stacy Randall, Kahoma's internist, was very considerate and patient with me as I pressed for miracles, as was the rest of the staff at STVS.
Dr Mike Willard, of Texas A&M Veterinary College, who found a mass in his abdomen; Dr Fred Williams of the STVS, who excised it; and Dr Marc Rainbow(STVS), who treated and operated on Kahoma's eyes to remove the cataracts so he could see again during the last 5 weeks of his life: these are other devoted doctors to whom I am very greatful to for what they did for my baby.
I have Kahoma's cremains atop my dresser, with fresh cut flowers constantly, alongside his urn and photograph. I have retired his collar and leash, and the seat belt harness he had on during the fateful ride to the Vet's office for the last time, and they hang on the wall nearby.
So I have a measure of solice in my grief. Howie even wears Kahoma's leash harness, and in a way I feel Kahoma is always with us--even though Howie doesn't walk nearly as far.
My life, and that of many, has been blessed by this wonderful little dog. I miss him.
