Chowder
We recently lost our seven year old lab Chowder to cancer, and it was and is a very hard thing to hear the doctor say—when all you want is a simple problem with a very treatable cure!
The cutest memory I have is when I picked him out, he was a very pretty yellow color and my dad told me, "You can get him, but I won't love him!" But Chowder very quickly become my dad's best friend and sleeping buddy, and the one hundred and twenty pound lab found himself very comfortable either in my mom's spot in bed right against my dad's back or on the couch. He was always carrying around socks or dish towels; it never failed if you went to put up a new dish towel on the stove the instant you turned around it would be missing!
Chowder had a wonderful life swimming in the horse trough, "helping" or following my dad, constantly wagging his very strong tail, and sleeping with cats; and knowing he had a great life makes it a little easier. Although the choice to end Chowder's life was difficult, I must say that due to the pain he was in, it was the best thing for him. My nephew asks every time he comes down where Chowder is. We simply explain he is in heaven, running around and playing with the others.
