Joe

JoeOur sweet Joe has been deteriorating over the past several weeks. His 13-year-old heart is slowly giving out on him and even daily routines, like eating, drinking, and getting up to say hello, have been difficult for him. Our family has made the difficult decision to end Joe's suffering and take him to be euthanized on Saturday morning.

Joe came into our family quietly - - almost as if he was always suppose to be there. Mom and I visited a local PetsMart to buy Lucy, our other Chocolate Lab, a Halloween costume. Instead we found Joe, a 7-year-old lab who had been looking for a good home for sometime. All I had to do was mention him to Dad and Joe was immediately made a family member.

Joe taught both our labs how to play tag-of-war and how to swim. He taught us that even an old dog can be a great companion.

He loved his food more than anything - - mostly popcorn on Saturday afternoons with Dad. And even though he had a dark past with abuse, he let us in to love him and always had a tail wag to greet me when I came home.

Six years later, the promise we made to Joe in the beginning is still the promise we keep to him today - - to give him a good home for the rest of his days.

Please give all your animals an extra hug tonight. They are amazing little creatures who can touch us deeply.
